Academic Profile
Martino Tran is a Oxford Martin School Research Fellow at the Transport Studies Unit (TSU), and Faculty Associate at the Smith School of Enterprise and the Environment, University of Oxford. Martino's research focuses on computational modelling the dynamics between technology diffusion and consumer behaviour in energy-transport systems. He collaborates with the Engineering Sciences Department at the Institute for Carbon and Energy Reduction in Transport (ICERT), and the UK Energy Research Centre's (UKERC) Demand Reduction Theme at the Environmental Change Institute (ECI) on scenario analysis and carbon modelling of the UK transport sector. He has networked with various departments across the University of Oxford and other UK universities on large-scale research bids in the fields of energy and transport. He has been an expert reviewer for EPSRC for research in energy technologies and has advised the UK research council's strategy for marine shipping and climate change. He is a peer reviewer for the International Journal of Transport Reviews and the Journal of Energy Efficiency.
Martino has nearly 10 years of professional research experience including 5 years of strategic management consulting for large-scale energy and transport technology investments including the Vancouver Port Authority (VPA) terminal expansion, the Richmond-Airport-Vancouver (RAV) Rapid Transit Line and Canadian wind power, co-generation and offshore oil and gas developments. Internationally, he has assisted the UNDP Regional Centre for Central and Eastern Europe in Strategic Environmental Assessment, and the United States Department of Treasury, UNDP Vietnam and the Ministry of Industry, Vietnam in sustainable energy initiatives. He is expert in stakeholder analysis and strategic planning for complex multi-disciplinary project developments and has been contributor or lead author of over 25 publications for Canadian government, academia and various international organizations. Martino's academic training is in engineering, evolution and computational environmental science. He completed graduate studies at Lund University, Sweden specializing in Sustainable Energy under the mentorship of Professor Thomas B. Johansson, a Convening Lead Author for the IPCC, and a pioneer in the field of Energy for Sustainable Development.
Teaching
Martino advises interns, masters and doctoral students at the Transport Studies Unit (TSU) and Environmental Change Institute (ECI) on energy and transport modeling, technology and policy. He also lectures for the University of Oxford continuing professional development MSc in Sustainable Urban Development, focusing on Energy and Climate Change.
