Planning, Economics and Governance
Overview
This research theme covers institutional, economic and planning aspects of transport. Governance and planning are the main means by which interventions in the transport system take place. They refer to formal and informal structures of institutions responsible for shaping and implementing transport policies. The specific effects of transport policies, especially in relation with the development and planning objective, are transferred into indicators, which can be dealt with through economic analysis. Economic models can be useful by incorporating this information and calculating the policy impact i.e. whether transport policy measures can improve welfare. Economics is also used to elucidate historical trends and predicted outcomes of policies via econometric methods. Using a series of applied economics tools, political economy analysis and planning methodologies, TSU aims to make practical contributions to transport policy and transport policy-making.
