About

Helen completed her DPhil at the Transport Studies Unit, supervised by Professor Tim Schwanen. She also coordinates the executive education programmes at the TSU and facilitates the Global Challenges in Transport online courses.

Helen holds master’s degrees in social anthropology from the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (Belgium) and in computational mechanics from the University of Cape Town (UCT, South Africa). Helen completed her undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering, also at UCT. She has worked in various consulting and research positions, most recently on public sector driven sustainable transport projects. Her doctoral research focused on the use of technology in municipally-run interventions which aim to formalise shared transport systems in South Africa.
