Global Challenges in Transport: Equity and Justice
Overview
Our Equity and Justice online course gives transport professionals from around the world a unique opportunity to think about (in)equalities in mobility, which affect people’s access to and interactions with, for example, spaces, opportunities, and resources. We will take an intersectional view, considering different factors, such as race, gender, ability, and class, that can affect the way in which transport systems can include or exclude different people in society. In the course we will take a critical approach to four dimensions of justice which can be considered in decision-making aimed at addressing potential inequalities, namely, procedural, distributional, recognition, and epistemic.
Our course participants will have access to the latest thinking from academics and practitioners from diverse contexts and disciplines and will learn through lively online sessions with an international cohort of experts.

Course content and lecturers
The equity and justice course is divided into six weeks of teaching. We will begin with an introductory week followed by an overview of equity and justice in a mobility context. Throughout the course we will look at how transport systems play an essential role in creating socially just and equitable urban systems. Addressing the various dimensions of justice, we will look at how transport systems offer access to goods and services in vastly unequal ways, how the governance of transport can offer new opportunities for representation of different social groups, and how to co-create transport knowledge for a fairer future.
