Is the future of transport electric?
The move to electric vehicles is not a silver bullet, according to Professor Tim Schwanen, director of Oxford's Transport Studies Unit.
Patricia Daley, Professor of the Human Geography of Africa, Tim Schwanen, Professor of Transport Geography and Director of the Transport Studies Unit (TSU), and Dariusz Wójcik, Professor of Economic Geography, have been awarded prestigious fellowships by the Academy of Social Sciences (AcSS), which recognise excellence and impact in the social sciences.
Dr Brendan Doody was selected as the recipient of a 2021 Divisional Teaching Excellence Award for Excellence in Supervision by the University of Oxford Social Sciences Divisional Board. The award recognises Dr Doody's outstanding contribution to teaching and doctoral supervision within the School of Geography and the Environment (SoGE), and the Division.
New policy briefings on the challenges, adaptations and opportunities for auto-rickshaw transport services and digital payment systems and financial inclusion for auto-rickshaw transport operator-drivers in India have been published by the PEAK Urban research programme.
A new public engagement project led by TSU's Dr Anna Plyushteva aiming to broaden the conversation about the challenges of everyday life in 2020-21 is documenting the daily lives of key workers who, during the COVID-19 pandemic, perform essential work that cannot be done from home. With the difficulties of working from home receiving much more extensive coverage, the project aims to contribute to the appropriate planning for the public transport needs of key workers in future crises.
