Towards Climate-Compatible Transport Pathways in Ghana

The new policy brief presents findings from co-constructed scenarios with local stakeholders in government, industry and civil society, key to Ghana's future, developed with the University of Strathclyde, KNUST, Kumasi Technical University and the University of Oxford's Transport Studies Uni. The workshop was organised as part of the Climate-Compatible Growth Programme (CCG) funded by the UK's Foreign Development and Commonwealth Office.

The main finding is that Ghana's transport transition depends more on institutional coordination than on technology adoption alone, and that electrification without governance reform risks deepening congestion and inequality.

The brief's recommendations span cross-sector coordination, prioritising public/commercial fleet electrification, equitable charging infrastructure, and bringing informal transport operators into the reform process.
